What is SQL?  

Structured Query Language, better known as SQL, is a domain-specific language used in programming, and designed for managing data, or for streamlining a relational data stream management system. In other words, it is the coding language that sits behind the Geographic Solutions VOS Sapphire^® system. To better understand how things work, and to maximize the return on our client’s investment, GSI is offering a special 8-session course to not only learn SQL, but to also become more proficient and responsive in important day-to-day functions such as reporting and searching.

What Will I Learn?

By successfully completing this course, attendees will learn:

• Key concepts of relational data and execute your first VOS query
• How to utilize various operations to create useful and meaningful reports
• How to use date-based data types and utilize built-in SQL Server functions to build powerful queries
• To discover the specific character datatypes and learn the built-in SQL functions that manipulate them
• How to use aggregate functions to create meaningful reports that summarize data,
• How to utilize multiple groupings to create more robust reports
• Begin to utilize sub-queries as filter criteria, thus producing even more robust, more valuable reports
• And, the basics of crafting queries that actually perform well, using VOS history tables and VOS audit columns to deliver and execute comprehensive, on-time reports

How Will it Work?

Leading the training will be Troy Deck, one of Geographic Solutions’ foremost experts on SQL. Each session includes time for questions and answers to ensure attendees are understanding and advancing with the course content. In addition, 15 minutes prior to the start of each session, attendees are invited to join early and ask Troy questions. Each session also comes with a self-test upon conclusion. Upon completion of the 8-session course, a final exam is conducted, and those who successfully pass will receive SQL 101 Certification from Geographic Solutions. If an additional tutorial is needed to successfully receive certification, that will be provided as well.    

Understanding SQL will be conducted on Mondays and Thursdays, 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Eastern Time, beginning February 26, 2024, through March 21, 2024, with a special kick-off call on Friday, February 16, and a post-course review session on Monday, March 25, 2024. Advance registration is required. All sessions are recorded and made available to registrants, both during the course and after.

Please note: This special SQL training course is being offered exclusively to Geographic Solutions clients. Due to the nature of the interactive instruction, space is very limited. Our inaugural course filled up in the first few days it was announced, so don’t delay. It is our intention to repeat and offer this course again throughout the year.
